I do get the impression that there’s an Apple design principle to hide complexity under the hood, period. I have three PCs on my network and made the necessary printer changes in less than 10 minutes! I thought Apple computers were easier to use? Bunk! I’m dumping my Apple and going back to a PC. just a quick question while following your instructions, when i click Modify Printer it asks for a username and password for the site says CUPS. At least this is how it appears in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 anyway. Even a local printer appears to have a URL (usb://blah) attached to it. If it’s a network printer, e.g., laserjet or ipp, there’s got to be a URL to get there.

I don’t think Mac are so stupid to edit the url. People told me its a only way to do that is to delete the old one and add a new one. FYI this tip also works in Ubuntu 11.04 but really not needed since you can change the url address easily from the printer properties. I thought everything is supposed to be easier on the MAC. I have been so frustrated with such a simple task to change a printer IP address. I have no idea what “cups” is, but you have to wonder why they don’t let you simply change settings through the Print & Fax interface.
